Mid Year Freakout Book Tag

Hey Everyone!

So we are a bit past the middle of the year now, but considering how freaking long this year has gone so far I don’t think it matters. I was tagged by the lovely Laura @ thebookcorps , make sure you check out her wonderful blog!!

1.Best book you read so far in 2020

It has to be Tiān Guān Cì Fú (TGCF) without a doubt. Written by Mòxiāng Tóngxiù, the same author of Mo Dao Zu Shi (MDZS), this book exceeded all of my expectations and holds a really special place in my heart. You can read my review here.

2. Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2020

The Empire of Gold definitely takes this spot, as it is one of my favourite series and it was just SO FREAKING GOOD. It had a bitter-sweet ending, and left room for spin-offs, and I was just so satisfied with how it ended. If you haven’t read this series yet, I highly recommend you get to it!

3. New releases you haven’t read yet, but want to

This is the only one I am putting up as it is currently sitting in my bookshelf, and I really want to read it soon but keep getting side-tracked. If I am being honest, I don’t have time for any other new releases right now, as I am trying to get through my TBR pile which seems to keep getting bigger…..through no fault of my own.

4. Most anticipated releases for the second half of the year

5. Biggest disappointment

I made it up to the 3rd book in the Air Awakens series by Elise Kova and honestly, I don’t even know how I managed to make it that far. I think I just kept holding out hope that the main character would become more tolerable to read, but it just never happened. This was a series I had always wanted to read because I had seen other people talk about it, but I just couldn’t get on board. Vhalla (the main character) is literally everything people hate when they talk about female characters that annoy them, which just pisses me off so much because I fucking HATE stereotypes, and I actually hardly ever come across female characters I hate, but this one is just infuriating.

6. Biggest surprise

I had seen people talk about this series alot and I had originally thought I wouldn’t like it due to it involving sports, however I was so ridiculously glad I ended up reading it as I fell in love. Yes it has it’s issues, there is no denying that, but I love it all the same.

7. Favourite new author

Definitely Julie Kagawa!! I read Shadow of the Fox at the start of the year and immediately fell in love with her writing, and now I need to read all of her other books!!!! Also, if you haven’t read Shadow of the Fox and love Japanese mythology, I highly recommend this series!

8. Newest fictional crush

Callie from The Bargainer series, and I am probably just saying this because it is what I am reading at the moment, but I love her. She has had a tough life, but she is determined to be a survivor and not a victim, and I absolutely love that about her. She is a badass and super loyal to the few people she is close to, which makes me love her even more.

9. Newest favourite character

(Xie Lian in the donghua)

I am going to have to go with the same answer as Laura for this one, because Xie Lian is THE BEST. There are so many layers to this sweet little onion, and when you think you have figured out who he is, you find out you were completely wrong and that there is more to him than what you thought.

I could write essays about this absolute sweetheart, he is that captivating and beautiful. I wish he were a really person so I could hug him 😦

10. A book that made you cry

Ugh stupid feelings.

11. A book that made you happy

This book was just SO GOOD. It was such a fun read, as well as cute, heartwarming and mysterious. I generally do not like whodunnit’s, they just aren’t something I am attracted to in a novel. However this one makes me want to read more wlw murder mysteries where the most horrible character gets murdered and the women have to use it as an opportunity for angsty investigations and and secret sexy times.

12. The most beautiful book you’ve bought so far this year

I was actually super lucky to find this at a $7 book store, which was such a massive win!!! To buy this online or at a normal book store I would be looking at anything over $40, so buying this one was an absolute no brainer.

13. What books do you need to read by the end of the year?

I want to read Towers of Midnight very soon, as I am aware that I only have it then the final book, then I will have finished one of the biggest series I have ever read! Heavy and This is How You Lose The Time War are both on my kindle and I have been reading them slowly while I am reading everything else, so I am also hoping to have these ones finished by the end of the year as well!
